Season 6 (2025) - Year in Review

New year, new beginnings…

Greetings from hibernation!

For those new here: the Open Street goes dark the first few months of the year. It’s a time for our all-volunteer group to rest and regroup after ~40 straight weekends of activities. We also take the break to catch up on some off-season tasks, like improving our internal processes, budgeting for the upcoming year, and planning for what’s next. There’s always more work to be done!

This newsletter will be back in its weekly format come April, as our seventh season (!!!) gets going. We may have a few special editions between now and then—we’ll see. But before we go, we wanted to shout out some stats from our biggest season yet:

The 2025 Open Street Wrapped

  • 676 events held, from the SpeakEasy Book Mobile to The Longest Table.

  • 115 events held during our busiest month—August.

  • 1,276 total volunteer hours contributed to weekend shifts.

  • 200 neighbors signed up to volunteer. (31 for the first time.)

  • 32,000 unique visitors to our website.

  • $10,000 donated to Astoria Food Pantry from our markets.

  • $27,269 raised from local contributions to support our efforts. (Thank you!)

  • 148 tables assigned in September—our highest number per month.

  • 300+ vendors brought their small business to the Open Street.

  • 3,831 neighbors who signed our petition for a safer 31st Street.

  • 135 community members requested ‘daylighting’ at a specific intersection.

That’s all for now!

As we said in December, 2025 was quite literally a transformative year for 31st Ave, as we finally saw the City implement a larger-scale redesign that we had fought for for years. The Avenue looks wholly different than it did this time last year, and the new design has made it much safer for all road users.

But let’s not stop there! This year is on track to be even bigger, and we’re hopeful that our own Assembly Member-turned-Mayor believes the same. And we’ll be able to share what we have cookin’ in due time.

Share Your Feedback

We strive to make the Open Street a pleasant experience for all, so if you have any feedback that you’d like to share with the volunteers we’d love to hear it! Our Feedback form is available 24/7 for members of the community to send their thoughts directly to our team.

Support the Open Street

It takes a lot to run the 31st Ave Open Street, such as renting storage space, paying for insurance, or buying supplies like extra chairs, sidewalk chalk, and trash bags to keep our street clean.

We list a few of the materials that we are in frequent need of on our donation page. As a 501(c)3 nonprofit, we also take tax-deductible donations via our Givebutter campaign for those who would like to contribute financially.

Every bit helps and we appreciate your support in making 31st Ave a better place for all! Thank you!
