COMMUNITY COOKOUT SERIES 2026

Food. Community. Cause.

That’s the simplest way to describe Tikkun BBQ’s annual block party series, the Community Cookouts, held on 31st Ave Open Street in Astoria.

What started in 2021 as a once-a-year gathering has since grown into a three-part summer series and become one of the largest and most anticipated event series hosted on the Open Street, and curated by Madeleine Koestner of Box Set Cinema.

With support from local businesses, elected officials, community organizations, mutual aid groups, and Astoria neighbors, Tikkun BBQ transforms the street into a free community gathering space centered around live-fire, Queens-style BBQ, music, film, art, and public service.

From serving free BBQ and screening movies like Jaws on a giant outdoor screen, to hosting DJs, bands, artists, demos, and community activations, the goal is simple: bring people together and make the street feel alive.

The series also supports causes beyond the block party itself—raising funds for mutual aid and humanitarian efforts while distributing public health resources such as Narcan kits and other community care items free of charge.
