Season 7 - Week 19
We’re on a roll…
Last week was our biggest weekend yet, with a supremely fun Community Cookout from Tikkun BBQ and Box Set Cinema, as well as a bustling edition of the biweekly Astoria Farmers Market. Thanks to everyone who grooved to silent disco, ate some good food, took in some wrestling, shopped local, and sucked up the late-summer vibes. (And if you watched Clue last month with us, we are also mourning the loss of Tim Curry.) It was certainly one to remember!
We’ve got one last weekend left in August before we enter autumnal bliss, when the leaves on the street start to change and we head into the fall fever pitch before winter hibernation. But we’re not there yet! Dog days of summer, commence.

The Clips
After four (read: too many) hit-and-run deaths in five days, street safety advocates held a “die-in” in front of City Hall to demand change. We hope something comes from it. (amNY)
Astoria ranked #2 in the city for most stickers (212) issued in the first two weeks of a new rule for cars that don’t move for street sweepers. Not the list we want to be high on, folks! (Gothamist)

It takes a lot to run the 31st Ave Open Street, such as renting storage space, paying for insurance, or buying supplies like extra chairs, sidewalk chalk, and trash bags to keep our street clean.
We list a few of the materials that we are in frequent need of on our donation page. As a 501(c)3 nonprofit, we also take tax-deductible donations via our Givebutter campaign for those who would like to contribute financially.

All are welcome and no prior experience is required
Drop by 31OS this weekend to talk with the 31OS crew to learn more about Setup, Tabling, or Breakdown shifts along with all the other ways people get involved!
The most help is needed 12pm-1pm and 7pm-8pm but shifts are available all day for anyone interested in keeping an eye on things, meeting neighbors, and talking with members of the community who may have questions.
Signing up is also not required! Dropping by the volunteer table anytime is the best way to find out what is happening.
