Season 6 Week 10

A round of applause is in order…
Folks: we just want to say THANK YOU to everyone who came out to celebrate the completion of the 31st Ave ‘bike boulevard’ redesign—or, at least, Phase 1!—this last Saturday. And to our great guest speakers: Council Member Tiffany Cabán; State Senators Kristen Gonzalez and Michael Gianaris; Assembly Member Jessica González-Rojas; Families for Safe Streets’ Roz Gianutso, Ary Servedio and Jeff Y; TA’s Mae Francke; Open Plans’ Emily Chingay; Loveday Vintage’s Ivona Bilicic; UP-STAND’s and, last but not least: Miser. It meant the world to see the support.
And a special shout-out to the people (all ~300-400 or so of you!) who stayed to watch Arachnaphobia alongside free food, courtesy of Tikkun BBQ and Astoria Horror Club. (And let’s not forget the folks who came back Sunday for even more Open Street goodness!)
It was a really special day for us here at the Collective. We mean what we said: we strive to show Astorians what’s possible by building a 31st Ave that’s safe, livable and joyous for all.
With this phase of the redesign basically over, we’ll take a pause on weekly updates—although we’ll have more soon, we’re sure—and jump right into the news and weekend schedule.
So without further ado:

Support the Open Street
It takes a lot to run the 31st Ave Open Street, such as renting storage space, paying for insurance, or buying supplies like extra chairs, sidewalk chalk, and trash bags to keep our street clean. We list a few of the materials that we are in frequent need of on our donation page. As a 501(c)3 nonprofit, we also take tax-deductible donations via our Givebutter campaign for those who would like to contribute financially.
We also just launched a campaign to fundraise for this summer’s Community Cookout series.
Every bit helps and we appreciate your support in making 31st Ave a better place for all! Thank you!
